Real Workplace Learning Twitter Chat
#realwplearn takes place MONTHLY on Wednesdays, 3pm ET/8 PM BST
for 60 minutes
The focus of this live Twitter chat session is to explore ways of encouraging, participating in and sometimes supporting workplace social and informal learning — where most real learning happens. We are not much interested in talking about “training”, “instructional design”, “courses”, LMSs or other traditional or formal top-down approaches to employee development. While our audience may include some from traditional L&D, we hope that leaders, managers, workers, and other workplace learners join in.
This is how we define some of the terms we are using
WORKPLACE = Any place where work takes place. This could be in a profit- or non-profit organisation, or even in an educational establishment – but the focus is on learning as you work NOT about teaching in schools, colleges and universities.
INFORMAL = Any learning that takes place outside a formal classroom or online course setting; Includes more specific terms like personal learning, group learning, natural learning, accidental learning, serendiptious learning, invisible learning ….
SOCIAL = Learning that involves co-creation of knowledge through interaction with others; it may involve the use of social media but not necessarily so.

Examples
We are also looking for stories about where REAL workplace learning is taking place – and it may not even be described as “learning”. If you have any stories please leave them in the Examples page. We also hope to encourage you to try out new ideas and would like to hear about your experiences with that tooTweet
